This ambulance service is located in southern Illinois. While it is operated as a private company, it functions as the only ambulance service in the area. They respond to all 911 calls requiring their services, providing prompt, professional, and safe transport to the appropriate facility. In most cases they are able to accommodate the patient's choice of hospital.
In addition to responding to emergencies, the ambulance service provides non-emergency transport of patients from one hospital to another location within a 150-mile area.
They have recently acquired a wheel chair accessible van in order to expand their services to include transportation of the elderly and disabled. This company is also equipped to handle calls that involve a hazardous material emergency. A fully equipped van that is housed at the station is reserved just for this type of emergency.
The company has placed over 51 AED's (automated external defibrillator) in the county.
The company works closely with the Community Fire Protection District First Responders to provide citizens of the County in rural areas with a minimum of basic life support prior to the arrival of the Advanced Life Support Ambulance. These "First Responders" are generally volunteer firefighters who donate their time and resources with little or no compensation. The owner plans to place and additional 50 AED's over the next few years though out the community.
While the majority of the revenue is generated by the 911 response calls, they also provide safety training on site for companies, as well as holding classes in CPR. They also are expanding their efforts in education and prevention, by holding mock drills for Prom nights, hazardous spill drills etc. Because the company works directly with the county and hospitals, they are guaranteed an annual income. They also have worked out an agreement that no other ambulance service may operate in this portion of the county. This scenario allows a new owner to continue to provide excellent service while increasing the opportunities to expand in other areas.
